Relative Targets Practitioner

A learning-intensive Day with the creator
of the Relative Targets approach

Relative Targets align performance systems with actual team performance – instead of relying on fantasies, plans, budgets, allocations, steering or supposedly ”motivating" individual objectives. Relative Targets make performance transparent – the emergence of team performance becomes understandable. They promote decentralized, consistently self-organized and democratic organization. A Relative Targets performance system can be brought to life within weeks - not months or years. It is easy to operate, robust in the face of complexity and it will always meet humanistic and democratic standards. The Relative Targets approach is equally suitable for public and private organizations. Relative Targets is a freely usable social technology based on the CC-BY-SA license from Creative Commons.

The Relative Targets Practitioner course aims at equipping participants for the development and long-term use of a performance system based on the principles of Relative Targets within an individual organization, or with client companies. This course makes use of conceptual impulses, and work on exercises, plus reflection with Niels Pflaeging, the creator of the Relative Targets social technology.

Target audiences

This qualification is primarily intended for people who want to shape organizations and work within their sphere of influence, in a contemporary and ethical way. It is designed for people who want to design or redesign performance systems within their own organizations, or within client organizations, and positive change in the world of work.

This qualification is designed for:

  • people who are interested in high performance, and in economically sustainable organizational decentralization and leadership.

  • people who want to learn about company-wide performance systems based on self-organization, and how these can be brought about within a minimum amount of time.

  • employees of companies that are involved in change or organizational development activities.

  • consultants interested in bringing about contemporary performance systems.

Character of the workshop session

This qualification is based on “iterative-discursive” didactics - in line with the content. The didactics of this workshop consists of three elements:

  •     "Lean" conceptual input

  •     Deepening exercises in the full group or small groups

  •     Discourse on what has been learned

We do not use PowerPoint. This is not a seminar or training - but a real workshop with plenty of interaction! It is possible to dispense with lecturing due to the obligatory preparatory reading.

Content Structure

  • Preparatory reading

  • Focus during the morning: Relative Targets - introductory concepts and exercises

  • Focus during the afternoon. How to bring about a Relative Targets performance system – In-depth exercises, reflection on method & approach. Discussion of practical problems and their solution
